FRANCE -- The electronic sports world cup has been acquired – along with their parent company game services – by DIP Communications, esportsfrance.com reports.
ESWC, one of the most prestigious leagues in eSports, has been acquired by a long time competitor in the event’s native France.
DIP Communications has purchased the ESWC name for a low sum of about 50,000 euros, much lower than many had originally anticipated.
Along with the acquisition of ESWC, all the members of the original company – with the exception of Matthieu Dallon and Aurélien Rougemont, who have found new work in other companies – as well as ESWC's web address belongs to DIP Communications.
However all may not be as it seems, as the head of the new owner is Stéphane Cosse has held falsified events before, one notorious one being ClickArena, which has been related to the Cyber X-Games in terms of disastrous results.
The model of the ESWC, however, may not stay intact as the new owner also owns a large number of cybercafes in France and may only hold tournaments in its native country for the time being.
