ESNation Buys, Franchises MYM

INSIDER ESPORTS – ESNation announced that eSports organization Meet Your Makers – better known as MYM – has now been transformed into a franchise.

ESNation will be granting the rights to the MYM brand to the newly established company Frontspawn ApS in exchange for royalties.  MYM staff and teams will continue to operate under ESNation A/S and act as a home for the MYM teams prior to the team being turned into a franchise.

"With today’s announcement of ESNation turning the MYM teams into a franchise, a new era starts and also a brand new way of thinking business within eSports begins" ESNation Mark "Mercy" Fries said.

This isn’t an entirely new concept, as the recent Championship Gaming Series (CGS) had built a ‘franchise’ system before.  They closed in November 2008 – less than two years after its legitimate formation but another two years of testing with the Championship Gaming Invitational (CGI).

However, ESNation is a first in maintaining the teams’ names and brand.  The CGS created two franchises from current standing teams – the Los Angeles CompLexity and 3D.NY – but gave them little freedom in terms of tournaments, games “on the side”, website management, among other things.

Perhaps the “idea ahead of its time”, as stated by CGS management, was only several months ahead.

ESNation states they have been working on this project for quite some time and will continue to push forward their project.

“The vision for gaming brand MYM (Meet Your Makers) is to maintain being one of the biggest and strongest brands in the gaming industry, but also to further develop the brand itself. We see a huge potential in the brand, the teams and players, and we hope that we, together, we will be able to take gaming to new heights,” Frontspawn ApS founder and managing director, Ronnie Jelsbak, added.

Hopefully this time it'll be more open for competition as it's not a league who owns the rights to the team.

It's a shame the SC team went to ESC so recently, those guys were damn good and are picking up where they left off with the domination.
