The First 24 Hours
Michael “peawok” Fleming talks about the first twenty four hours of Insider eSports launch.
Hey everyone. I’m going to break this up into sections so you all know what I’ve been doing in the first twenty four hours. This is essentially a blog-gone-feature, so you all spot it on the site. It’s also some interesting things that IE fans may not have seen yet, or just seeing for the first time.
Having not slept aside from a two hour nap the day of the launch (when I was receiving “GO TO SLEEP” PM’s every moment) for over fifty hours, I felt that I needed one night to refuel myself. And did I. I went to sleep around midnight and slept until ten. Fantastic.
CEVO Placement Tournament
I know you all were hoping for more coverage from us from the CEVO PT, but you need to understand I had so many messages, emails, facebook comments, IM’s and more that I felt needed to be answered. I had a few people get on it and the CoD coverage is up to date, but our 1.6 coverage is behind. I’m going to sleep and waking up by eleven to recap day one, including scores and a recap from myself. It was the first time we’ve seen some of the new teams in action so I want to give my impression.
But things will get better; I can promise you that. It’s hard to expect a site in beta with no rights to scorebots or HLTV’s (GotFrag currently has those rights, or, to be more precise, teams are granthing them those rights) to provide them. Presidential Servers was ready to help us, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be yet. I hope that has not drawn too many people away from the site. If it has, it is my fault alone and that just means I will need to draw those people back.
Thank you so much for all the PMs, emails, comments in the public, and article comments. It has helped us immensely. We updated user profiles more and we have content ready for tomorrow as well as website updates. The forums might be up tomorrow; we’ll post if they go live.
I have also received many messages from larger names in the community including players and owners of CompLexity, Gravitas, x3o, MSG, MoB, Frag Dominant, Sway and ex and current staff members for sites like GotFrag, Cadred and Winout. Everyone is interested, whether worried as a competitor, interested as a team, or excited as a fan. I made a promise to all of you. I never break a promise.
I have seen the posts on GotFrag, IRC and other places. I have seen our site get attacked (though that was a DNS issue, not entirely insideresports.com), get flamed and seen people and companies go after our sponsors and potential sponsors. Those who try are determined, but I know I am more so.
Insider eSports will make a difference. If that requires me to cut my sleeping time to five hours a night and not live up the last semesters at college, so be it. All those messages of congratulations, opinions on how to fix the website or asking to volunteer have been warming to my heart and the hearts of the staff. We believe we are doing something good for eSports and gaming and will not stop.
In the next few days, I’ll be working as hard as I can to get good content. I’m already talking to big teams and players about exclusive news releases, information and interviews. Be on the lookout.
Now, it’s time for me to get my required five hours, as per my family, friends, girlfriend, and staff.
Have a great night,
